Guest Lecture: Styling with Ilker Cinarel
Ilker Cinarel was born in Istanbul, Turkey, but moved to London to persue his fashion driven career. He worked alongside Vivienne Westwood on the Red Label for four years and then transitioned to the Gold Label. After working with Vivienne Westwood he became a part of the Giorgio Armani team. Cinarel worked there in Milan for eight years, however he preferred living in London and so moved back to the UK. He is both a stylist and a visual merchandiser, in which he provided his many skills to numerous brands. His client list is long, ranging from American Express to Topshop, as well as working for Vivienne Westwood and Giorgio Armani.
Ilker brought in a selection of garments and accessories that were a mix of graduate fashion pieces, or some of his own belongings. He styled a couple of girls from the Fashion course to give an example of his work, and it was interesting to see how he pieced things together. Once he finsihed his example, it was our turn to style.
The first thing I saw on the rail was a modern, sporty coat. The print on the back of the neoprene-style garment caught my eye straight away, and I desperatley wanted to style it. I wanted to create an urban streetsyle look, inspired by the youth of London. The model (Beth) is wearing her own tube top, paired with a leather skirt from the rail. The coat was a graduate fashion piece, and I styled it with some chunky boots from another student to balance the outfit out. I intended to add a Dr. Martin leather bucket bag to the look, however another team wanted to use it for their styling. Below I have included a small collage of the finished look:
