Artist Rooms: Gerhard Richter

I visited the Gerhard Richter artist exhibiton at the Plymouth Art Gallery recently, and I was given the task to pick one of his pieces of work and create a moodboard for a photoshoot of our own. I decided to pick Self Portrait Standing, Three Times. I liked the use of mixed media, as the black and white photography has red paint over the top which creates texture and contrast.

The colours and mood of this piece reminds me of Alexander McQueen's Savage Beauty exhibition, and so that was an inspiration that I wanted the photoshoot to go towards. I also looked at some dark and gloomy locations, and researched into hair and makeup with a sinister twist, Black Swan was a reference. I also love Tim Walker's surreal photography, the body language and settings are a big creative influence for me. Givenchy's facial piercings from their fall 2015 collection was also a possibility for the shoot.
This is the inspiration moodboard I created for the shoot - (I do not own any of these photos)
