Model Download: Malaika Firth
Almost every young girl's dream is to become a top fashion model, appearing on the front cover of Vogue magazine and walking on the runway. This dream came true for one special girl, Malaika Firth. Bambi-eyed Malaika was born in Kenya in 1994, and stayed there for 7 years before moving to Barking in the south of the UK.
Firth started her modelling career in 2011 at the age of 17, signing to Premier Model Management London. Since the age of 17, Malaika has been signed to several model agencies including New York Model Management and OUI Model Management in France.
Malaika's unique beauty and dainty bone structure has pushed her into the spotlight of the modelling industry. She's walked in the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show and appeared in the Prada campaign as the first black model since Naomi Campbell, in 1994. Firth is also one of the new faces of Burberry, and has previously modelled for the popular clothing website ASOS. One of Malaika's greatest achievements so far, in my opinion, is being on the front cover of Vogue magazine in 2013. Malaika has also appeared in i-D magazine, Tank magazine and Roller Coaster magazine. Not only is she incredibly beautiful, additionally, Malaika is a talented sketcher. She regularly posts photos of her drawings on Instagram, as well as fan art.
I recently drew Malaika, and five other models I love (including Jourdan Dunn), and I posted a photo onto my own Instagram account. With a lot of luck, the down-to-earth model commented on it saying "Ur really good!" as well as Jourdan simply commenting a love heart emoji. Thrilled that I got a response from Malaika, I decided to try and get in contact with her over Instagram Direct. With great hesitation and a long paragraph explaining what I was doing with my website, and hopes for the future, I plucked up the courage to send her the message. To my surprise I got a reply, here's the short interview:
Q: Who's your biggest fashion inspiration?
A: "I'm open to all styles, whether it's from the street or from celebrities."
Q: What is one item that you always have with you?
A: "My IPhone."
Q: What's the best modelling experience you've had so far? A: "Travelling to amazing locations, like Dubai."
Malaika Firth is an amazing model, and person, and I wish her all the luck for the future whether it be for modelling or acting and everything else.
